At first, relations between Iran and France was started by sending religious panels in Louis XIII time. Shah Abbas 1st, gave religious freedom to French missionaries that made the French pay more attention to Iran. By establishment of east India company, France paid attention to Iran's commercial interests and the company could get notable grants from Shah Abbas 2nd , but the French navy was not strong enough to compete with UK and Netherlands navy and because of Ottoman opposition, couldn't have a solid relation from the land side of the country.
Sultan Hossein tried a lot to get help from France in front of Arabs Muscat, but the French were involved in succession wars of Spain and didn't accept to help them. Therefore, Iran and France relations, never outspread on the base of common interests and in an impressive way.
